Johnny G, Innovator and Fitness Icon
[ezcol_1half]
A living legend in the international fitness community, Johnny G is the innovator and creative genius behind the world-renowned Spinning® and Kranking® exercise programs. He is equally regarded as possessing the unique and proven talent for empowering people to become the best possible version of themselves. With humble beginnings as a garage-based class offering in the late 1980’s, Johnny G created a revolutionary new exercise genre with Spinning, now a staple in every group exercise program around the globe, boasting over a million participants daily.
Spinning was a game changer in the world of group exercise, drawing members off the gym floor into a room of Johnny G Spinners® to ride together in a climate-controlled, indoor peloton to the beat of driving music under the guidance of specially trained and certified Spinning coaches.
As significant a contribution as Spinning has been, Johnny’s second invention, Kranking, shatters conventional thinking about the effectiveness of training with the upper body. Inspired by a physically challenged athlete riding a hand cycle, Johnny G developed the Johnny G Krankcycle®, a stationary bike pedaled with the arms to train the upper body in a way no other equipment has before. Whether seated or standing, the Krankcycle offers a unique combination of both upper strength and cardiovascular training.

As Spinning did in the 1990s, the Johnny G Krankcycle has established a new genre in cardiovascular training. It is widely regarded as being the most effective piece of upper body cardio and strength training equipment on the market today. More significantly, Kranking has opened the doors of group fitness to those whom have long since been marginalized. The Krankcycle is the first piece of training equipment in mainstream health clubs that is truly inclusive.
Perhaps amongst Johnny’s greatest contributions to the fitness industry has been in the environment he created, which inspired the development of a fitness culture centered around an international community of athletes, instructors and trainers from all corners of the world. Long before the advent of social media, instructors were communicating with one another about their experiences with the Spinning bike, the Krankcycle, the relationship with their students, and with each other. Some were inspired to the extent that the “spinning man,” and “immortality tomoe” can be found tattooed on the skin of thousands of fitness professionals and enthusiasts.
Johnny currently resides in Santa Barbara, California, with his wife, Jodi, and their three children, and continues to explore the possibilities of health and well being with new and innovative products and ideas.
